Sometimes a new perspective showing additional details is all it takes to spice things up. After building the first two segments of the NEWT Pipeline Project, it would have been easy to get comfortable with the approach to the third—to rely on our existing relationships with the Owners and coast to an expected victory. But to set ourselves apart from competing firms and to not become complacent, our team pushed to collaborate and get creative.

SETTING OUR TEAM APART

Our team’s familiarity with the alignment was obvious to us, but communicating our expertise to East Larimer and North Weld County Water Districts was key to being awarded this project. We understood the site conditions, existing utilities, and stakeholder needs better than any other team. With this knowledge, we requested a drone flyover of where the third segment would be constructed early in the proposal process. Garney’s in-house drone pilot, Rogelio Saucedo flew the pipeline alignment and turned the footage over to our creative team within a week. From there, our team identified key sections along the alignment where there would be potential for challenges during construction. The final drone video featuring a voice over from the Project Manager, Gary Haas, ultimately showcased our team’s level of commitment and understanding of the critical project.

MORE THAN A VISUAL

Not only did this video and graphic development help brighten the visual identity of the proposal, it also helped drive written content. Once our team reviewed the drone footage, the project scope became easier for our team to describe, discuss, and write about for our proposal. Having a visual model of where the near 30,000 LF of pipe would go, helped mold the narratives surrounding project-specific challenges, risks, and phasing approaches.

In the end, despite not coming in with the lowest cost, our team’s display of project understanding and dedication to delivering a quality project elevated our proposal to a key victory in Northern Colorado.
